Top 10 Coolest Geeks On The Net

This list, much like our others, is completely biased and subject to our interpretation. And while subjective, it’s hard to argue that these 10 aren’t very influential in fellow geeks everyday lives. That being said, here are our top 10 cool geeks on the net… You could also probable call this the TWiT cast…

Number 10: Lisa Bettany

mostlylisaWho is she?

Why she is cool?

One of Canada’s top geek bloggers, no doubt made a splash when included in G4’s sexiest women on the net. Since then, and some argue before that, she has made her mark. Mostly Lisa has a huge internet following and has loyal fans around the world.

Lisa is also an accomplished photographer, model and actress to go along with her writing/blogging skills. But what makes Lisa a geek? She admits it! From sporting viking caps to poking fun of herself in her videos, Lisa is what is cool about being a geek.

You can read more about Lisa in our exclusive interview with the up and coming starlet here… This interview was from May 2008

Number 9: Justine Ezarik

justineWho is she?

Why she is cool?

iJustine as her fans know her, came up as an internet video blogger, posting viral video, which has amassed a cult like following. Hailing originally from PA, you can now find the mac enthusiast floating around California and the SF bay area.

While some knew of the cool yet wacky video blogger, Justine also gained a lot of notoriety when she took on the Justin.TV role and was willing to where a camera on her head 24/7 for the sake of geeks everywhere, becoming a reality geek.

Justine now hosts various tech shows and still posts her videos on every social median known alive. Also known for her “300 page iPhone bill.”

Number 8: Jason Calacanis

calacanisWho is he?

Why he is cool?

Let the money flow… Jason Calacanis isn’t usually described as cool… But let us say this, he sure has style. From rolling with hollywood and driving a Tesla, the Brooklyn native has made a splash in tech for years. If he doesn’t come up with it, he definitely doesn’t hesitate to buy it and make it his.

Recently in addition to regular netcast appearances, he has helped actor Kevin Pollak launch the KevinPollakChatShow.com, a weekly netcast featuring Pollak interviewing other actors and comedians.

Did we mention that he co-founded Weblogs Inc, featuring popular blog, Engadget? Also the founder of social news site Mahalo.com. And Jason is an advid twitterer. Even offering a half-million dollars to be in Twitter’s top suggested users for 3 years. And they say we are in a recession…

Number 7: Veronica Belmont

Coming from Boston, Veronica came up as radio and internet show producer. She started behind the scenes but quickly became a popular face on CNET’s Buzz Out Loud, and later several other CNET netcasts. She is now a co-host with Patrick Norton on the tech netcast TekZilla and also Qore on the PS3 network. The attractive and sexy geek is also an advid gamer. How cool is that?

Veronica also appears regularly on other popular netcasts.

Why she is cool?

Rising to fame on the TechTV show TheScreenSavers, Sarah quickly became a popular face in the geek world. Thousands would regularly check out what the California native was up to on her SarahCam and still do no matter where she pops up.

Sarah was a host of the internet show PopSiren, but after the show has since moved on to work for Current. She can be regularly seen with her new tech show with Martin Sargent, This Week In Fun, which this last week was officially added to the TWiT netcast list.

Sarah also famously spent an entire year traveling the globe and blogged about the entire trip.

Number 5: John C. Dvorak

dvorakWho is he?

Why he is cool?

Simply put, never ever afraid to say what’s on his mind, and for that… We respect him. Agree, disagree… who cares? John C. Dvorak has always been in the thick of stirring up the pot on anything that is tech for over 30 years. There isn’t a subject that he doens’t have an opinion on, and people around the world flock to hear it.

John Dvorak has been writing PC and tech articles for PC Mag and other various publications since before many we even alive. Dvorak also hosted short-lived tech tv show, TechTV Live on the TechTV channel, and regularly appears on This Week in Tech with Leo Laporte.

The main reason he is cool… He is completely uncensored, and he likes it that way.

Number 4: Amber MacArthur

amberWho is she?

Why she is cool?

Canada’s premier source for all that is tech. AmberMac has long since been a face of tech in the country north of the border, working on shows such as Call For Help and CityTV’s network of shows.

But Amber is most known for being the face of CommandN net show, Net@night on the TWiT network and an internet blogger. She is at the forefront of the internet social atmosphere. We could go on and on about how great Amber is, but we only have so much space here.

And how dedicated is she to the net? Hours after she had her baby, she was tweeting about it.

Number 3: Steve Wozniak

wozWho is he?

Why he is cool?

Along with Steve Jobs, co-founder of Apple. In on the ground floor of the personal computer industry, Woz helped make computers what we know today. We could rave on and on, but he was very influential in developing the industry.

Also, one of the most personable and friendly people in the world, no kidding! Very approachable despite his status in the world. And one of the few people you would be hard pressed to find a bad thing ever said about.

Currently featured on this season’s Dancing with the Stars, the tech legend, obviously has no fear of poking fun at himself.

Number 2: Kevin Rose

kevinWho is he?

Why he is cool?

Kevin Rose started off as an occassional segment on the popular tech show The Screen Savers, and has risen to the status of Mogul. Eventually becoming co-host of The Screen Savers (later Attack of the Show), Kevin went on to become a pioneer in social media. Kevin left the G4 network to launch the social news site Digg.com and later a series of internet tv shows on the Revision3 network.

He has the golden touch, and almost every project he touches turns to money. From Digg to his newest project WeFollow, Kevin is the new millenium’s face of tech. From Las Vegas to San Francisco, Kevin Rose has risen to cult status in the tech world.

Number 1: Leo Laporte

leoWho is he?

Why he is cool?

Without Leo Laporte, most people would not know most people on this list, PERIOD. Leo has been in tech and radio for over 40 years and is probably most known for being the face of The Screen Savers along with co-host Patrick Norton.

Constantly is the guy that talk shows, like Regis and Kelly, bring in to talk tech. He also is the guy behind the mic doing tech radio shows. Everyone in this top 10 list has at some point, some even every week, appeared on Leo’s TWiT network. During his time in tech, he has become the go to guy in the business. His TWiT Network has changed the face of streaming video on the internet. Leo is the godfather of tech media.
